Going Green

Green building is booming in the United States. By 2013, green building is expected to represent 25 percent of all commercial and institutional building starts and 20 percent of residential construction, up from 2 percent in 2005, according to McGraw-Hill Construction. And FSC-certified wood was found to be the most specified green-building product in McGraw-Hill’s database of 60,000 project specifications collected annually, surpassing even Energy Star.
Everyday new companies are coming out with their green message. The flooring industry is no exception. New technologies, innovative new products, new ways of measuring a products impact on the environment and new laws are being developed almost every day. What you may not know is that the flooring industry has been a leader in the green movement. Some of these initiatives have been products with fewer chemicals, finding ways to collect and recycle flooring and turn them into new products, investing in new equipment that uses less energy and resources. The flooring industry as a whole has a proven track record of leadership and success.

What is FSC?

The FSC standards (Forest Stewardship Council) represent the world’s strongest system for guiding forest management toward sustainable outcomes.
What are FSC Certified Products?
FSC certified products are manufactured with material that comes from managed forests that are traceable from the time the logs are cut to the time the final project is installed and are recorded by way of a COC or chain of custody claim on all invoices. The FSC standards (Forest Stewardship Council) represent the world’s strongest system for guiding forest management toward sustainable outcomes. FSC certified products are manufactured with material that comes from managed forests that are traceable from the time the logs are cut to the time the final project is installed and are recorded by way of a COC or chain of custody claim on all invoices. The demand for certified forest products has grown significantly in recent years. All Greens goal to act as a responsible steward of the environment encouraged us to pursue our FSC Chain of Custody (COC) certification which would provide our customers (Dealer, A&D Community and End- users) the added reassurance they’ve done their part to be earth friendly in their product purchase and substantiate the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Materials & Resources Credit 7 for Certified Wood, in which the intent is to encourage environmentally responsible forest management.
The Forest Stewardship Council was created to change the dialogue about and the practice of sustainable forestry worldwide. This impressive goal has in many ways been achieved, yet there is more work to be done. FSC sets forth principles, criteria, and standards that span economic, social, and environmental concerns. The FSC standards represent the world's strongest system for guiding forest management toward sustainable outcomes. Like the forestry profession itself, the FSC system includes stakeholders with a diverse array of perspectives on what represents a well-managed and sustainable forest. While the discussion continues, the FSC standards for forest management have now been applied in over 57 countries around the world.
